3.18MW MAWO HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT GROUNDBREAKING CONDUCTED

Northern Samar/November 12, 2024---To address and bring clean, affordable power to the province, the groundbreaking ceremony has been conducted for the new 3.18 MW Mawo Hydroelectric Power Plant in Brgy. Happy Valley, San Isidro, Northern Samar.

This is a partnership between NORSAMELCO and EBATECH, and now registered as EBATECH NORSAMELCO ENERGY CORPORATION, which is anticipated to be completed and start operating by January 1, 2028.  The Mawo plant will connect directly to NORSAMELCO’s power system, reducing transmission costs, which could reduce electricity costs by P 0.4482 per kWh and make electricity cheaper for local consumers.

This project also will create jobs, with around 29 positions open for both skilled and unskilled workers during construction and once the plant is running. Property taxes and permits are expected to increase local governments' income. The project plans to support local improvements in Happy Valley, such as building or upgrading daycare centers and barangay halls, fixing roads, and installing street lights as part of its commitment to the community

Present during this momentous event were NEA Administrator Antonio Mariano C. Almeda, Gov  Edwin C. Ongchuan, Vice Gov.  Clarence Dato, EBATECH General Manager Ernesto Abunda, Jr, NORSAMELCO Acting General Manager Engr. Hector N. Tabilisma, the San Isidro Municipal Councilors, and the Happy Valley Barangay Officials.

The Mawo Hydroelectric Power Plant brings hope for a brighter future for Northern Samar, combining environmental care with economic growth to benefit the whole province.#
