Catarman MPS Launches Road Safety Campaign Amid Rising Vehicular Accidents
Northern Samar/πππ₯π©ππ’πππ§ 6, 2026– In a proactive move to address the alarming increase in vehicular accidents, the Catarman Municipal Police Station (MPS) has launched a comprehensive road safety awareness campaign. This initiative, spearheaded by PLTCOL Alden E. Dugan, ACOP, aligns with the 32nd National Crime Prevention Week's theme, "Strengthening Civilian Oversight and Collective Actions for Safer Communities."
The campaign comes as the municipality grapples with a noticeable surge in road incidents, many of which are attributed to reckless and irresponsible driving. PLTCOL Dugan issued a stern warning to all motorists, particularly those dubbed "kamote drivers" – a local term for speeding, reckless, and undisciplined riders.
"Drive safely and responsibly," PLTCOL Dugan urged. "Never drive under the influence of liquor or prohibited substances. Always observe speed limits, wear your helmet, and follow traffic rules. Recklessness costs lives, limbs, and livelihood — not just yours, but of innocent people as well."
To amplify this critical message, the Catarman MPS has strategically placed tarpaulins across various barangays within Catarman. These materials vividly illustrate the severe repercussions of vehicular accidents, encompassing financial burdens, extensive medical expenses, vehicle damage, significant legal liabilities, and the tragic, irreversible loss of lives.
The campaign's core objective is to instill in every motorist the profound understanding that irresponsible driving not only jeopardizes their own safety but also inflicts immense suffering and high costs upon families and the wider community.
Through this concerted effort, the Catarman MPS aims to cultivate a culture of discipline, foster greater respect for traffic laws, and ignite a shared commitment to road safety among its constituents. The ultimate goal is to transform the streets of Catarman into a safer environment for all.#
